Kenna has been dancing for over 11 years, beginning her journey at age 13 in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she trained with Los Bravos Dance Company. It was there that her love for Salsa and Bachata started. Over the years, Kenna has been a part of various teams and companies, always eager to learn and grow. Her journey into more advanced training began with Alma Latina, where her passion for taking her dance to the next level truly ignited. It was through her time with Alma Latina that Kenna’s love for Bachata and Salsa styling deepened, sparking her desire to push herself to higher levels of performance and skill.
After Alma Latina, Kenna traveled up North to go to San Jose State University, where she was a key member of the collegiate competition team, Spartan Mambo, earning numerous titles. She also founded and directed the university’s first-ever Ladies Styling team. These experiences fueled her realization that she wanted to pursue dance as a career and train at a professional level.
Her passion for Ladies Styling was further inspired by studying under Yared Martinez, whose mentorship solidified her love for Ladies Bachata Styling. She has since drawn inspiration from other incredible artists, shaping her unique style and approach to the art of styling.
In January 2024, Kenna founded Ay Fuego Dance Company in San Diego. She now teaches weekly Bachata Ladies Styling classes and directs different performance teams. While she regularly teaches in San Diego, she also shares her expertise with dancers across the U.S., offering workshops and special gigs in various locations.
Kenna is passionate about teaching and choreography, breaking down movement with a focus on body mechanics and helping dancers grow both technically and expressively. Her years of social dancing keep her connected to the roots of Salsa and Bachata, and she remains a lifelong student, constantly evolving with the art she loves.
